    Description

[Samuel Colt and John C. Hays]. Thirtieth Congress, Second Session No. 295. Senate Report, February 12, 1849. [Washington]: n.p., [1849]. 8vo, 18 pages, string bound, "on the subject of his [Samuel Colt] improved repeating fire arms." The report gives testimonies of high profile soldiers including Sam Walker, Jefferson Davis, and Major General Taylor about Colt's firearms. Colonel Jack Hays testified: "I have had a good opportunity of testing the utility of Colt's pistols during the late Mexican war, and feel no hesitation in saying they are superior (in my opinion) to any other now known for cavalry. The danger of accidental explosion has been obviated by the late improvement. They go off clear..."

Samuel Colt (1814-1862) was an American businessman, inventor and industrialist who founded the Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company and first to mass-produce the commercially viable revolver.

Condition: Light toning at edges and foxing throughout. Staining at inner margin at spine. Minor creasing and chipping at spine.
