    [James A. Garfield]: Charles Guiteau Archive. Archive that originated with Dr. Alexander McDonald, a key witness at the Guiteau trial. 1) 6" x 9" book in titled wraps, "Guiteau Trial. Closing Speech to the Jury of John K. Porter of New York." New York, John Polhemus, 124pp., 1882. Partial separation to front cover, chipping and loss to spine and covers, damp stain that affects the last 20 pages and rear blank cover. 2) 6" x 9" booklet in titled wraps, "Guiteau - A Case of Alleged Moral Insanity" by J. J. Elwell, reprinted from the Alienist and Neurologist of October 1883, 26pp., presentation inscription from author on front cover. 3) 5 3/4" x 9 1/4" booklet in titled wraps, "The United States vs. Charles J. Guiteau. Bill of Exceptions", 40pp, 1881. 4) 5" x 3" cardboard pass to Guiteau's execution on June 30, 1882, inscribed to A. E. McDonald, signed by Warden John S. Crocker. 5) Carte-de-visite of Guiteau "The Assassin." 6) Card inscribed by Guiteau "Charles Guiteau/ U. S. Jail/ Washington, D.C./ Nov 13 1881". Dated the day he was examined by Dr. McDonald. 7) June 29, 1882 telegram to Dr. A. E. McDonald inviting him to Guiteau's autopsy on June 30th. 8) 8" x 10" bifolium printed letter from attorney George B. Corkhill disputing the authority over the disposition of Guiteau's brain. 9) December 6, 1882 TLS from U. S. Attorney General Brewster to Dr. A. E. McDonald asking him if he required further payment for his services as a witness at the Guiteau trial. 10) Small manuscript note written by J. K. P. [prosecutor John Porter] to Dr. McDonald relative to his cross-examination on the witness stand which helped to clarify the testimony he gave the previous day.
