    [George Washington] Archive of Early Washington Benevolent Society Ribbons and Booklets. Included in this archive are four very early silk Benevolent Society ribbons: (1). 1.75" x 8", with a portrait of Washington, "Pro Patria" above, and "Washington / Benevolent / Society / County of Ontario" below; (2.) 1.5" x 8.75", with mourners at the memorial to Washington, "Caritatis Auspicus" above, and "Washington Benevolent Society" below; (3.) a vellum ribbon 1.75" x 4", stitched on to a larger silk ribbon (2.25" x 6"), the vellum with a portrait of Washington, "Pro Patria" above, and "Washington / Benevolent / Society" below; and, (4.) a similar vellum ribbon, 1.75" x 7.25". There are four Washington Benevolent Society books included in this archive: George Washington's Farewell Address, Troy, New York, Henry Stockwell, 1812, membership certificate blank; George Washington's Farewell Address, (no engraving), with certificate for Samuel Leull, Gloucester, July 18, 1812; Washington Benevolent Society booklet, with "Pro Patria" Washington engraving, and membership certificate to Chester Wills, East Hartford, Conn, March 24, 1813; textbook of the Washington Benevolent Society, with engraving of Washington, and certificate to Percy Martin, February 1812; and, a separate membership certificate for Edmund Dolbean, of Massachusetts, January 11, 1814. The "Washington Benevolent Societies" were Federalist political organizations. An impressive archive!
