    Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Newspapers Chronicling Important Events. Three newspapers with excellent Lincoln-related and Civil War content. 1) September 23, 1862 issue of "The New York Herald". The headline on the first column reads "A Proclamation by the President of the United States", this being the text of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Disbound, complete at 8 pages with light aging. 2) July 4, 1863 issue of "The New York Herald". The headline on the first column reads: "Gettysburg. A Great Victory Won!", followed by details of the three-day battle with casualty lists. Disbound, complete at 8-pages, two "saddles" stapled together, unevenly cut at spine, light-to-moderate aging. 3) April 12, 1865 issue of "The New-York Times". The headline on the first column reads: "The New Era. Important Speech by the President. His Views on Peace and Reconstruction." This was the last public address delivered by Lincoln prior to his assassination, dealing primarily with public policy in reconstructed Louisiana and the possibility of citizenship, and accompanying rights, for newly freed African Americans. Disbound, complete at 8-pages, excellent.
