    Description

RARE JUGATE POSTCARD FROM STROM THURMOND’S FAMOUS 1948 3RD PARTY CANDIDACY. Thurmond’s "Dixiecrat" candidacy, which espoused "state’s rights" and segregation, very nearly siphoned off enough votes in the South to sink Harry Truman’s reelection candidacy. Thurmond was one of the very few third-party candidates who actually managed to win electoral votes (a feat never managed by Eugene V. Debs in any of his five trials). This postcard, while in itself tough, is nonetheless the only "attainable" jugate item for the Thurmond-Wright ticket. The jugate pinback button is prohibitively rare, commanding a price upwards of $10,000. This card is a beauty, in choice near-mint condition. Auction records to around $1000.
