Little Rock, Arkansas Desegregation Crisis. One of the notable landmarks in the struggle for civil rights that took place in the 1950s and 1960s was the effort to desegregate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Despite the opposition of school and state officials and resistance by white citizens, the black students gained entrance. In order to accomplish this, President Eisenhower took the extraordinary measure to call in troops of the 101st Airborne Division. This occurred in September 1957. This lot has approximately 18 pages of teletype bulletins reporting on developments as they occurred, as well as a copy of the September 25, 1957 "Austin Statesman" covering the crisis on its front page.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
