John F. Kennedy: Unpublished Dallas Photos. When the Presidential entourage arrived at Dallas' Love Field on the morning of November 22, 1963, no one had an inkling of the terrible tragedy that awaited them a short distance away. Within thirty minutes, the course of American history would be dramatically changed. Many people lined the parade route... some even took pictures as the limousines glided by. They, along with millions of Americans, would soon be emerged in the chaotic maelstrom of events. But, back at Love Field a half-hour earlier, things were calm, even routine. The press awaited the arrival of Air Force One. Spectators lined up behind the chain-link fencing. Security personnel stood at the ready. Among the crowd was one unknown person who calmly snapped photos of the event. We don't know his name, but he may have been one of the inner circle who had clearance to photograph the Presidential Party up close. He or she took seventeen photos before the motorcade sped away for a rendezvous with death. Later on, once the news spread, the photographer took two additional shots of the Texas Book Repository. In shock, he waited until February 1964 to develop the film. The photos show the arrival of the President and other dignitaries. We see Jackie, LBJ, Lady Bird and Governor Connelly. JFK is clearly recognizable in ten of the photos, all of which measure a standard 3.5" x 5". In an eerie and foreboding gesture, JFK puts his hand to his head in one image, while seated in the limousine next to Jackie. The Sixth Floor Museum has two or three of these images in their collection, but this appears to be the only complete set. Apparently, two sets were printed in February 1964 and one broken up or partially lost. This set was purchased at a recent estate sale, but the negatives were not included. We must assume that they are lost.
