John F. Kennedy: Extensive Archive of Assassination Teletypes. Group of fourteen rolls of teletypes dating from the time of President Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963. These are dated November 22nd through the 24th, recording both the tragic events of that day and the aftermath, including public reaction. The first roll we saw reads, from the top: "Flash. Dallas. Kennedy Seriously Wounded. Perhaps fatally. WCNS" followed by "UPI-99 (Kennedy) Dallas. President Kennedy and Gov. John B. Connally of Texas were cut down by an assassin's bullets as they toured downtown Dallas in an open automobile today." The paper has become rather brittle over the years with some normal chipping and tears. We have not unrolled these in fear of causing damage; however, they appear to range in length from a few feet to literally dozens of feet. There are five rolls that are unusually thick. We suspect this archive may be the most voluminous one extant.
