John F. Kennedy: Dallas Trade Mart Invitation and Press Badge. 7" x 10" engraved invitation to attend "a luncheon in honor of/ The President and Mrs. Kennedy/ The Vice-President and Mrs. Johnson/ The Governor and Mrs. Connally/ Friday, the twenty-second of November/ at twelve noon/ The Trade Mart". The President was on his way to this event when he was struck down by an assassin's bullet. The recipient of this invitation was Roy Parks, advertising director for WRR radio in Dallas. Another station employee, John York, was supposed to go, but deferred to his colleague. A paper press badge in plastic sleeve with safety pin attachment accompanied the invite. The pass was issued in three configurations (Airport, Reception and Press) with the latter being the rarest. Parks went to the Trade Mart, but the Presidential Party did not arrive at the appointed time. Their patience exhausted, the reporters starting eating. Shortly thereafter, the news came in and everyone quickly returned to their offices to cover the breaking story. This is the first example of this invitation and pass we have been able to offer. It is accompanied by a DVD interview (an "oral history") that the late Roy Parks gave at the 6th Floor Museum. The invitation is attractively matted and framed using archival materials.Auction Info
