    Description

John F. Kennedy: Archive of Letters of Grandfather Patrick. This clothbound ledger or journal is titled on the cover: "Patrick J. Kennedy Personal Letters". Kennedy was JFK's grandfather. He was elected to the Massachusetts Senate in 1880 and was a prosperous wine and liquor importer as well the owner of several Boston saloons. His son, Joseph P. Kennedy, married the daughter of John Francis Fitzgerald, Rose Fitzgerald. Joseph and Rose were the parents of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The volume contains a listing of names arranged in alphabetical order with numbers assigned to each name (possibly phone numbers or contributions). There are two letters written to Kennedy and three hundred and four[304] carbon copies of letters sent by Kennedy, all signed. These relate to business matters, job recommendations, local politics, speaking engagements, financial matters, etc. The back of the ledger contains some newspaper clippings, genealogical information and photocopies of some letters. A letter of provenance from the family accompanies the lot.
