African Americana: Choice Ephemera Including the Second Issue of W. E. B. DuBois' "The Horizon". Group of twenty-three [23] items. We believe the most interesting item is a 5" x 6" issue of "The Horizon - A Journal of the Color Line" magazine for February 1907. This is the second issue of the W. E. B. DuBois publication that appeared in 1907-1908. It is marked "Sample" and is printed on cheap green paper, bound with staples (the first two leaves with advertising are detached). At 26 pages, it is complete and very historically significant. 2) A 1943 copy of "Freedom's Plow" inscribed by the author, Langston Hughes, to fellow writer Howard Fast. 3) A rare program for a September 6, 1915 showing of "The Birth of a Nation" at the Cumings Theatre. 4) Real photo postcard of "Joe Ballard, Salisbury, N.C. For six years Chairman of Rowan County Republican Executive Committee." He was chosen as there were "no White Republicans in this section". 5) "Now is the Time" booklet issued by the Negro Labor Council. 6) Booklet titled "Equality Land and Freedom. A Program for Negro Liberation" published in 1933 by the League of Struggle for Negro Rights. 7) "The Black Family" booklet by Angela & Fania Davis. 8) "Behind the Lynching of Emmet Louis Till" booklet published in 1955 by Freedom Associates, Inc. 9) "In Defense of Negro Rights" by Benjamin Davis, published in 1950 by the New York State Communist Party. 10) "The Negroes in a Soviet America" by James W. Ford & James S. Allen, published in 1935 by the Workers Library Publishers. 11) "Win Progress for Harlem" by James W. Ford, published in 1939 by the Harlem Division Communist Party. 12) "For These Things We Fight" published in 1951 by the Negro Labor Council. 13) "A Black Woman Speaks of White Womanhood Of White Supremacy Of Peace" by Beulah Richardson, published in 1951 by American Women for Peace. 14) Embassy Theatre playbill for the March 13, 1933 production of Eugene O'Neill's "All God's Chillun Got Wings" featuring Paul Robeson. 15) A 24-page biographical booklet for Dr. W. E. B. DuBois published in 1963. 16) A 1967 biography of Ben Davis (1903-1964) titled "Ben Davis Crusader for Negro Freedom & Socialism". 17) "Unmasking Martin Luther King, Jr. the Deceiver" leaflet published by the Christian Crusade. 18) 1968 "The Crusader" booklet published in China by Robert F. Williams. 19) A 1941 playbill for a production at the St. James Theatre of "Native Son" with Canada Lee, produced by Orson Welles and John Houseman. 20) A 1940 pro-Willkie leaflet titled "Back to Slavery" issued by the Colored Division of the Republican State Headquarters of Tennessee. 21) A 1967 comic book titled "Vietnam" with an African American prospective. 22) "Martin Luther King and The Montgomery Story" comic book. 23) Booklet titled "April 23 For Martin Luther King and Boston" published by the SCLC in conjunction with a political rally.
