[Abraham Lincoln]: Plate From 1869 Bond Detector Book. 12" x 9" unissued engraved bond (a "6/81") for $100. Portrait of Lincoln at top flanked by vignettes of a mechanic & farmer on the left and "New Ironsides" on the right. There are nine pyramid-shape cancellation marks. Light discoloration with light damp stain on right. Matted and shrink-wrapped. Printed from the original Treasury Department plates, this illustration plate was removed from the 1869 book "The American Bond Detector and Complete History of the United States Government Securities". The purpose of the book was to educate people in the financial sector on the characteristics of genuine bonds versus counterfeit examples.
