DescriptionZachary Taylor and Franklin Pierce: Two Clay Pipes. These exhibit well-defined eyes, noses, and tendrils of hair, with Taylor's likeness crowned in laurel leaves. In addition to bearing detailed facial features of the presidents, each pipe bears an inscription at the stem. Taylor's stem reads "Rough and Ready" while Pierce's bears his first and last name on one side and "President" on the other. When viewed facing the bowls and including the stems, the pipe depicting Taylor measures 1 3/8" x 1 1/4" x 2 1/8" while the pipe depicting Pierce measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" x 2 1/4". There is a chip on Pierce's nose, a small crack down his forehead, and a rough edge around the top of the bowl where the lip seems to be missing. The blank stem of the Taylor pipe is marked in ink, "L55." Both show minor chips and wear. Overall, these are in good condition with nice features and plenty of character.
