Great 1888 Benjamin Harrison Campaign Badge
"1840...1888, That Same Old Coon." Brass shell raccoon attachment is marked on the branch on which he sits, "Watch dis Coon." The 1888 Harrison campaign resurrected many popular symbols from the popular candidacy of his grandfather, W.H. Harrison. One of these was the coon, which, like today's donkey and elephant, was an early Whig Party symbol. Neat item in Choice condition (note: The ribbon appears cropped at the bottom, but, in fact, the original selvage (fine fringe) is present, and the word "Morton" is simply overprinted on the selvage itself). 1 3/4" x 3". From the Joe Brown Collection.
