    Description

George Washington: A Magnificent, Massive 18 Karat Gold Pocket Watch Depicting Washington with His Stallion. This is an English watch, with movement and dial signed by famed maker Joseph Johnson, 25 Church St. Liverpool. The case is hallmarked on inner and outer covers "18K" with Crown, and the case number, 13919, matches the movement number. The watch is key-wound through rear keyset on the face, and has a brass inner dust cover. Signed porcelain dial has Roman numerals. It is in near perfect condition. The watch has spade hour/minute hands, and a blued second hand, but is missing the glass crystal. The steel tension spring in the 18 karat case is marked "pat. May 16, 74." On the back of the case is a patriotic motif with draped flags, crossed cannons, and cannonballs. Diameter 2.375". Condition is excellent, with light even pocket wear. Also included is a magnificent Victorian gold watch chain with ornamented "T" bar, and ornamented gold slides in rose, yellow, and white gold. A truly striking ensemble that makes a beautiful display. From the Edward C. Gillette Collection.
