Richard Nixon "Bill Signing" Presentation Pen. This pen originally the property of Robert Ward, who was completely blinded in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After marrying in his fifties, his wife pushed him into traveling and public office. He was elected President of the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) in 1971 in Miami, Florida. He went on to serve a second one-year term. During 1971-72 his duties included much travel and political lobbying in Washington. During this time a bill was passed and signed into law involving Veterans' issues by President Nixon. Mr. Ward was at the signing and spent about fifteen minutes talking with the president. Nixon then signed the bill and gave this pen to him. This tasteful pen comes in a gold and white presentation box; the white box has a gilt brass bracing. It also bears the presidential seal and a facsimile signature of Nixon. The pen itself is navy blue and silver, and also bears a facsimile signature. Measures 5.5" long. In very fine condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
