Description

Zachary Taylor: Brass Encased Portrait Medallion. DeWitt ZT-1848-9, 39 mm. Very rare 1 1/2" locket containing an engraved portrait under glass of the 1848 Whig candidate, inscribed "General Taylor Never Surrenders". The gilt brass back plate has a raised inscription which reads "In Honor of the Hero of Palo Alto Resaca de la Palma Monterey and Buena Vista". Generally in excellent condition with some inconsequential corrosion to the obverse brass liner. This is quite a bit rarer than the larger "pewter rim" medallions one normally sees.
