Winfield Scott: Imposing "Brady" Ribbon. This 4" x 7" silk ribbon was worn by a member of the "Cataract Delegation, Paterson, New Jersey." at some unknown Whig campaign event of 1852. Paterson is known for its waterfalls, powered by the Passaic River, which sustained a vibrant textile industry, especially the production of silk ribbons. This unlisted variety was engraved by Buttre after a daguerreotype by Mathew Brady. Winfield Scott, though born in Virginia, lived in nearby Elizabeth, New Jersey. It is therefore likely he attended the gathering in Paterson. If you're from "Joy-see", make us "an offer we can't refuse!"
