Sam Houston: Unique 1857 Gubernatorial Ribbon. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" silk ribbon titled "Hero of San Jacinto/ Independent Ticket/ For Governor,/ Sam Houston." Houston defeated Mexican General Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto, thereby avenging the loss at the Alamo and securing Texas independence. He later served two terms as President of the Texas Republic and became Governor of the state after its admission to the Union in 1845. The election of 1857 was his only electoral defeat. He was considered a presidential hopeful in 1860. When Texas seceded from the Union, Governor Houston refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy and was removed from office. This wonderful artifact has some minor areas of loss and pulls in the fabric and has been professionally mounted to mulberry paper for conservation.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
