Rare 1865 Lincoln Celebration Badge and Ribbon. Here we have a July 4, 1865 Lincoln Memorial Ribbon with original eagle and flag badge, in choice condition. Measures 1.5" x 4" , printed in black on pink-colored silk ribbon. At the top it reads: "4th July, 1776, Washington." And below: "4th July, 1865, Lincoln." Affixed to the middle of the ribbon is a bronze eagle pinback badge, to which is attached by a ringlet a small, enamelled flag with 36 stars. This was apparently made for a 4th of July celebration just a few months following the assassination of President Lincoln, when American sentiments were still at a low ebb due to the loss of this great political figure. We've never seen one of these pieces before and the two top Lincolniana experts to whom we showed this piece had never seen or heard of it before, either. An important piece that will make a nice addition to any advanced collection of Lincoln memorabilia.
