Martin Van Buren: Magnificent and Extremely Rare 1840 Silk Ribbon. Van Buren is pictured with Washington (claimed by both Democrats and Whigs!) and revered party founder Thomas Jefferson, along with Van Buren's predecessor and mentor Andrew Jackson. All Van Buren ribbons are rare, and this is without a doubt the most beautiful and desirable portrait variety! Basically has a great appearance. For accuracy we note several trivial, small, light stain marks and a few very minor little incipient vertical pulls in the weave of the silk. But as the photo shows, overall condition is extremely pleasing. Measures 2 1/2" x 7 3/8", and is only one of a handful known.

The ribbon presents much better in person than the website scan indicates. The scanning process has exaggerated the defects. Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
