Jefferson Davis & Alexander Stephens: An Oh-So-Rare and Important Silk Ribbon. "The South Forever," it proclaims. The early "First National Confederate Flag" is pictured with "Southern Confederation" above, names of the president and vice president below. Almost certainly issued very early in the War, probably to celebrate the two leaders' Inauguration. Pictured by Sullivan & Fischer (CSA-2), but that is the only other example of which we are aware. Very nice overall condition, with light toning to a cream color. Two tiny pin holes appear below the flag. The reds are lighter than the blues, which is also the case with the plate example. Possibly this is as made, but more likely the red ink was more prone to fade. An historic ribbon for Civil War and political collectors alike. 2.5" x 8". From the Merrill C. Berman Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
