    Description

James Buchanan: Outrageous In-Your-Face Post-Election Ribbon. Unbelievable 3" x 9" silk ribbon issued by the "Baltimore Republican" newspaper following Buchanan's election victory in 1856. Titled: "Clear the Track! Old [Buck] Is Coming", it ridicules the losing candidates Frémont and Fillmore through invective and satirical references. Frémont is chided as the proponent of emancipation and is "Off For The Rocky Mountains". Fillmore, who could only manage to win the electoral votes of Maryland, is doomed to travel to Salt River on the ship "Know-Nothing". We're not sure of the symbolism of the pepperbox pistol linked with Fillmore. The ribbon has a clean horizontal separation at the central fold, neatly repaired on verso with three small strips of archival paper tape, but otherwise has a very "minty" appearance. A rare and important piece.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
