JAMES B. WEAVER PEOPLES PARTY RIBBON (LOT #321.01 IN THE CATALOG). 2 x 6" red satin ribbon with gilt-stamped  lettering and portrait. Inscribed "The Peoples Party. Campaign Badge. For Free and Unlimited Coinage. General Weaver." The emblem of the party is also depicted, composed of a shield, American flag, and the initials "P P F O C" and the word "America." Weaver first ran for president
on the Greenback-Labor Party ticket in 1880. He was considered the head of the Peoples' Party (a populist or agrarian oriented movement) in the early 1890s. The Democratic Party under William Jennings Bryan adopted their policies, including monetary ones designed to alleviate the financial plight of their farmer constituent base. A very fine example, complete with original safety pin attachment on verso.
