    Description

George Washington: Two Fine, Early Silk Ribbons. Although the first of these grass-roots Federalist political groups was founded in 1808, they became widespread after the anti-Madison "Peace Conventions" in 1812. Members were issued these ribbon badges which were worn in processions. As such, they are the earliest known American political ribbons. The smaller one is mint with the larger essentially so, although lightly soiled at the top and bottom. Height: 6.5" and 5."
