Extremely Rare and Important John Tyler Silk Ribbon. Tyler never ran for president in his own right. By the time he had served out W. H. Harrison's term, there was no interest on his part or on the party's in an 1844 Tyler candidacy. Accordingly, very few items honoring his presidency were made, and only a handful have survived, of which these silk ribbons are perhaps the most appealing. This is the specimen from the legendary Ed Veleber Collection. When your writer entered the political hobby in the late 1960s, this was believed to be the only known example. However, over the last three-plus decades, perhaps 6-8 examples have surfaced, still leaving this ribbon in the category of extreme rarity, particularly in light of its singular importance. The present example is in very choice, crisp condition. The horizontal black line in the lower field is the only trivial imperfection. 3" x 7.375".
