Daniel Webster: Rare Silk Ribbon Picturing a Youthful Webster.
Along with Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, Daniel Webster dominated the United States Senate in the second quarter of the 19th century, and was considered perhaps the greatest American political orator. He would make three serious but unsuccessful runs for the Whig presidential nomination, the first in 1836. In 1840, he was outmaneuvered by Harrison and offered the vice presidency, which he declined. This ribbon, having "Bunker Hill Convention" printed over "Webster Dinner", likely dates to the 1840 campaign. Below his portrait reads "One Country, One Constitution, One Destiny." The piece measures 2" x 4.5" and has original selvage at the bottom. The top has some wear, but presents well. The portrait of Webster is excellent and untouched.
