RARE C. 1832 ANDREW JACKSON REVERSE-ON-GLASS PAINTING. This rather crude portrait is not the most flattering, but it is the only example of this particular variety we have ever seen. Older (hence the 1832 dating) image, with prominent "A J" in gold letters below. Original wood frame. Condition is above average for the type, with only a hint of the typical separating of the paint from the glass. These reverse glass paintings exist in considerable variety from the 1820- 40’s, showing leading political figures as well as presidents. Some were set into the doors of mantle clocks, while most, like this one, were simply designed as wall decorations. 9 ½ x 11 ½" as framed. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).
