    Ulysses S. Grant: 1879 Silver Dinner Favor or Souvenir. 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" sterling silver "card" by A. Andrews of San Francisco, engraved: "Farewell Banquet to/ Genl. U. S. Grant/ Palace Hotel. Oct. 25th 1879./ E. H. Winchester." Charles Main & Ezra Winchester formed a partnership in 1850, producing some of the highest quality horse tack and leather goods then available. This was likely Winchester's personalized place card for the event,. The maker's name, location and "Sterling" are stamped on the back side. From the Scott W. Dolson Collection.
