    Description

President Garfield Assassination Collection Including Bullet Fired at Guiteau. An outstanding collection of period items which relate to the assassination of President James Garfield. These rare relics are displayed in a vintage framed display and consist of a 4" x 6" cabinet photo of Garfield signed in black ink, "J. A. Garfield," and an actual bullet that was fired at Guiteau after he shot the President. This bullet missed its mark and ricocheted against a hard surface, flattening it. Also in the frame is a cut signature of assassin Charles Guiteau. This one-of-a-kind display originates from the estate of A. J. Halsted, editor and proprietor of Wheeling, West Virginia's Evening Journal. Accompanying provenance and artifacts include a June 30, 1882 [date of Guiteau's execution] letter from C. E. Henry to General Crocker seeking permission for Halsted and two others to "look at the assassin" (separation at folds, accompanied by front panel of transmittal envelope) as well as a note regarding the bullet indicating it is the "Property of A. J. Halsted, Esq" and his actual ticket to the Johnson impeachment trial signed by him on verso. Accompanied by COA from PSA/DNA.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
