Mary Todd Lincoln: Hair of Lock Attributed to the First Lady. Substantial lock of hair, perhaps 3" in length, tied together with beige thread. The hair is light brown in color with a good amount of grey mixed in. According to the consignor, it was part of lot #260 in the "Roy P. Crocker Historical Document Collection" sold by Sotheby Parke Bernet on November 28, 1979. That lot included hair of William Wallace Lincoln and a "Lock of Mary Todd Lincoln's hair framed in daguerreotype case." An internal inventory kept by the consignor's family assigns a number associated with the Mary Todd Lincoln lock of hair. In addition, since Willie Lincoln was too young at time of death to have grey hair and the hair does not match the dark brown color or coarseness of Abraham Lincoln's hair, the attribution seems solid. The hair color matches, too.
