Mary Todd Lincoln: Floral Pattern Beige Silk Dress. 50" long summer dress, short sleeve, primarily composed of sheer silk. There is floral pattern trim on the sleeves, collar and waist. There are also three wide overlapping bands of floral pattern silk attached to the bottom, supported by a gauze foundation. Scattered repairs and alterations. Good overall condition. Accompanied by assorted scraps of surplus material including a 94" width of floral pattern banding, matching that seen on the dress.

This was part of a collection of items that descended in the Fowler Family of Chicago, friends of neighbors of Mary Todd Lincoln while she lived in that city. The First Lady wrote many letters to Mrs. Fowler whose son, Henry, was a playmate of Tad. They retained the letters and other keepsakes associated with Mrs. Lincoln, many of which appear in this sale. We include a copy of a 20th century inventory and Letter of Provenance by a Fowler Family member that lists some of the items, but not all, including a "Dress, skirt & blouse".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
