John F. Kennedy: His 1951 U.S. Passport, Issued to Him as a Congressman. The only known passport existing of JFK in private hands, this was a special VIP passport issued by the Secretary of State, Dean Acheson, bearing his seal and signature as well as that of the young Congressman, and was "valid only for travel in the countries designated and in connection with, and for the duration of, the official business indicated therein." It has been filled out by Kennedy, listing his Bowdoin Street address in Boston and his next of kin, father Joseph P. Kennedy, Hyannis Port, Mass., to be notified "in case of death or accident."

Kennedy used this passport for extensive travel in the Near and Far East as well as Europe, often accompanied by his brother, Robert, to study conditions in other countries. Customs and Embassy stamps indicate visits to Japan, Singapore, Indochina, Pakistan, Burma, Indonesia, Australia, Germany, Israel, England, India, Iran and France.

The passport, measuring 3.75" x 6.125", is in excellent condition. It was purchased by the consignor in the widely publicized December 2005 Guernsey's auction of Kennedy artifacts, where it sold for $64,800. Interestingly, Heritage sold what appears to be a duplicate print of the photo used in this passport, ex-Robert White Collection, in our May 2015 Political and Americana auction.
