John F. Kennedy: Dallas Limousine License Plates. Heritage is honored to offer the license plates used on the Presidential limousine occupied by President John F. Kennedy when he was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas. The plates are clearly visible on several photographs taken of the motorcade. They are standard front & rear plates, each 12" x 6", with black lettering on a metallic yellow-gold reflective background. The plates are numbered "GG-300", have an expiration date of "3-31-64" and are additionally inscribed "Nation's Capital District of Columbia". When is use, they were housed within a chrome frame under Plexiglas. They are in excellent condition with some light rust to the bottom edge and on the back side. The Presidential limousine was ordered from Ford's Advance Vehicle Group and outfitted by Hess & Eisenhardt of Cincinnati. The base sticker price was $7,347 and the modifications cost the government an additional $200,000. Known within Secret Service circles as SS-100-X, it was placed in service in March 1961. After the assassination, it was sent back to Hess & Eisenhardt for upgrades (additional armor plating and a bullet-proof roof). Painted black, it was used by President Johnson until 1967 and now resides in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The consignor's father was the owner of Hess & Eisenhardt. The limousine was transported to their facility in Cincinnati, accompanied by an FBI agent. During the refitting process, a package arrived containing the new set of plates. The agent took off the old plates, discarded them, and installed the new set. The plates were retrieved from the trash and retained as a souvenir. The winning bidder will receive a signed letter of provenance from the consignor. We also include two re-print photos of the limousine undergoing work at the Cincinnati facility (the license plate clearly visible) and a photo of the consignor's father holding one of the plates.
