    Description

    John Brown: Assorted Relics. Extensive collection of Brown material, including four items that were part of an 1860 museum display, as evidenced by caption cards written in both English and German. Includes: 1) standard copy image CDV, 2) engraved CDV, 3) clipped signature mounted on an index card reading: "Respectfully Your Friend John Brown", 4) an Abbott tintype housed under glass, 5) a commemorative medal DeWitt SL-1859-1 in white metal (Fine Condition, cleaned), 6) a 2 ¼" x 1 ¼" piece of the coat Brown was wearing when executed, 7) a 2 ¼" piece of the coffin Brown was placed in after the hanging, 8) a 3" x 7/8" piece of the tree that Brown made his last speech under at Charlestown, Virginia, 9) a 2 ½" piece of rope taken from the noose used to hang Brown, and 10) a clipped signature of Richard Parker, the judge who presided at Brown's trial. According to the caption cards, the exhibit objects were donated by John Creesey and Captain Richard Adams.
