James Garfield Group of Campaign Materials. An election circular, one page, 8" x 10.5", Brooklyn, NY; October 29, 1880. A close and heated campaign took place during the lead up to the 1800 presidential election, with Winfield Scott Hancock and Garfield both waging political war on each other. This pro-Garfield circular accuses Hancock of not being sympathetic to the hardships of industrial workers. The circular ends with a call to visit the ballots, saying, "It is a duty you have no right to neglect." Also included in this lot are an Electoral Ballot and a transmittal cover dated October 30, 1880. Garfield went on to win the election of 1880 and served as the United States' 20th President.

Condition: Toning throughout, letter has usual mail folds, and small separations at folds where weakness occurred. There are also some small areas of darker toning at the center. The cover has some chipping, and some small strips of archival tape are on verso.
