George Washington: A Well-documented Lock of His Hair, Housed in a Gold and Onyx Brooch. A fine overall lock of over a dozen brown hairs, tied with what appears to be original thread. The lock is accompanied by color scans of two 1928 affidavits documenting its provenance, along with a 1928-dated envelope in which it was housed. According to the documents, one notarized, the lock was one of several clipped by the undertaker and given to dignitaries when Washington's coffin was opened. This lock was presented to Congressman Job Roberts Tyson, and descended through his family to the 1928 owners, Caroline Tyson Drayton and Mary Stuart Tyson.

Hair collecting is a long-standing tradition which seems only to have attracted more adherents over time. George Washington's hair has always been sought-after, and has appreciated dramatically in auctions over recent years. This example is attractively presented in a 2.25" x 1.75" gold and onyx brooch, with T-bar pin on verso. Provenance: John Reznikoff/University Archives, and accompanied by a Reznikoff certificate of authenticity.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
