    [Zachary Taylor]: Family-owned Silver. This group of silver ware was owned by Zachary Taylor's youngest daughter, Ann Mackall Taylor and her husband, Richard Crooke Wood. The highlight of the group is a three-piece coffee service by Samuel Kirk & Son of Baltimore with ram's head handles and repouse├ę floral designs. Each piece has the engraved initials of the owner, "AMW" for Ann Mackall Wood. The coffee pot is 12.75" tall, the creamer 10" tall and the sugar bowl 8" tall. The stamped maker's mark on the sugar bowl and creamer is one that was used primarily in the 1846-1861 period. Both have the weight, 11 oz. We also include a set of six silver butter knives, all stamped "S. Kirk & Son 10.15" with an engraved letter "W" on each handle. Finally, we include a 16" silver ladle. The bottom of the bowl has a 1786 German thaler with a portrait of Frederick the Great. The hallmark shows a key and the letters "IPA". The lot will be accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from the consignor detailing the line of ownership.
