[John F. Kennedy]: Set of Renoir Limoges Plates for Jackie's Paris Visit. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy visited Paris in May 1963. Gifts were prepared and given to mark the occasion. The First Lady received a set of Limoges china with hand-painted floral designs after paintings by Renoir. The consignor of these three plates was the American agent for the company that made them. She received three "specimen" plates from the service. The set includes dinner, salad and dessert plates ranging in size from 7.5" to 9.5". They are "certified" as being number one out of an edition of one hundred; however, we feel these are prototypes and that examples were not produced for the general public. They were made by George Boyer of Limoges to be marketed by the Galerie Urban in Paris. Each plate is inscribed on the verso: "Specimen Du Service Offert a Mme. Jacqueline Kennedy en Mai 1963". All three are in excellent, unused condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
