Tilden & Hendricks: Rare Large Jugate Campaign Chart. 24" x 33" [sight] multicolored poster depicting the 1876 Democrats, titled "The Champions of the People's Rights." It includes the standard elements, including biographies of the nominees and party platform. Published by Haasis & Lubrecht of New York. The "Temple of Liberty" is a nice retro element that dates back to the early 1850s. 9.5" vertical tear at top, areas of loss in the upper left and lower right. Housed in a vintage gesso frame with velvet-covered liner (loss to gesso and wear to velvet). We have seen multiple examples of the Hayes & Wheeler chart (one of which appears in this auction), but this is the first Tilden we have seen. A great display piece for the unfortunate loser in the "Stolen Election" of 1876. From the Collection of David and Janice Frent.Auction Info
