    Description

Harrison & Morton: Wonderful "Starry Flag is Our Talisman" Jugate Poster. If you purchase this fantastic poster, tell your fellow hobbyists "Eat your heart out!" But, all kidding aside, this is a great piece. It measures 40.5" x 27.5" and is titled: "'Protection' of American Interest, Country, Capital, Labor, Home." It features oval portraits of the 1888 Republicans, flanking a shield with crossed flags in the background. It is captioned "The Starry Flag is our Talisman". Appears to have been printed in a three-step process using wood blocks. Designated "Republican Campaign Banner No. 1", it was made by Hitchcock's Steam and Publishing House in New York City. Mounted to thick paper [not examined outside of frame]. Some areas of loss with tears, as shown, but essentially intact. Certainly, one of the best posters of the era, especially for a flag specialist.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
