    Description

Franklin Pierce: Fantastic Cartoon in Full Color. Medium folio [13.5" x 19"] lithograph published by J. Childs of New York in 1852, titled "No Go And Going With a Rush". Democrat Franklin Pierce has smooth going as he rides his horse to the White House. In contrast, Winfield Scott is stuck on the road leading to Salt River. He rides a recalcitrant jackass, but beating the poor beast with the "Mexico" club does no good. Members of the Native American Party try to pull it in one direction while a group of African Americans attempt to prod it from behind. These two groups are emblematic of the conflicting forces which would soon pull the Whig Party apart. A bemused Horace Greeley, himself a Whig, comments on the spectacle. Signed "EWC" in the plate. Ample borders. 1" border tear with two strips of linen mounting tape at the top edge, easily removed. Great condition. In our book, the best of the 1852 political cartoons.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
