William McKinley: "The Lockout is Ended" Poster. McKinley is shown as the friend of labor and capital in this 22" x 32" multicolored poster from 1896. "Financial Mistrust" has closed the doors to the "Temple of Prosperity". A sign on the door says: "This door will be opened November 3rd 1896. Wm. McKinley". It is titled: "The Lockout is Ended; He Holds the Key." It was published by Frederick L. Chapman after a drawing by Frank Beard and printed in Chicago using a process called spectrotyping. Labor lockouts were a common occurrence in the turbulent years of the 1890's, witness the Pullman Strike of 1893. This evocative poster has been professionally mounted on linen and is in real good shape.
