Thomas Dewey: 1944 Anti-Truman Klan Poster. Sometimes the efforts used to discredit Harry Truman during his runs for office became pretty reprehensible. In 1944, as FDR's running mate, rumors concerning Truman's possible Klan membership in the 1920's were dredged up. The result... this graphic "cartoon" poster measuring 28" x 41", inscribed "Vote For Dewey Kill The Klan". The central image shows a Klan lynching party. FDR puts his arm around a hooded Truman and exclaims: "I Should Be Very Happy To Run With Harry Truman. He'll Bring Real Strength To The Ticket!" The poster is adhered to cardboard with tape at the very top, and has some tears along the left side and top edge. The central design retains bold colors and graphics.
