    Description

McKinley & Hobart: Previously Unseen Jugate Poster. 36" x 48" poster titled "The Tariff Is An Issue. W. McKinley." A quote by Bryan downplays the importance of the tariff as an issue and urges that it be put aside as a topic of discussion. Portraits of the Republican nominees appear near the top. The Republican Party, personified by Miss Columbia, uses a sword to point to a scene labeled "1892 Protection Under the McKinley Tariff Bill". To the right is a dismal scene labeled "1896 Result of the Wilson Tariff Bill". "Ruined American Industries" are dumping their products, men are unemployed and the woolen mill is closed. A cartouche at the bottom explains the dollars-and-cents aspects of the tariff, citing income versus expenditures. Three foreign ships unload their cheap goods in the harbor. A farmer and laborer look to the Republican Party for their salvation. Produced by Edwards, Deutsch and Heitmann of Chicago. Mounted on linen. Some border tears or minor restoration to the blank border. Displays near-mint.
