Marvelous 1924 Die-Cut Cardboard Window Sign For Davis & Bryan, Exploiting the Teapot Dome Scandal. This has always been one of the most desired 20th century political display pieces by sophisticated collectors. Davis-Bryan jugate items of any kind are rare, and the delightful shape and Teapot Dome tie-in give it great display appeal. Notoriously hard to find in nice condition, this is a distinctly superior example. While it does exhibit some horizontal creasing on the handle, the main body of the teapot is in great shape save for a couple of surface paper flakes where the spout joins the body (could undoubtedly be in-painted by any good paper restorer, if one felt the need. The creases could also be greatly mitigated by such conservation). One of only several examples we have handled in thirty-plus years. 13.5" x 10".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
