Abraham Lincoln and Family: Handsome Hand-Colored Engraving. 25 ½" x 20" [sight] engraving titled: "The Lincoln Family in 1861." Published in 1873 by J. C. Buttre of New York. The work takes a great deal of artistic license, copying an 1864 photograph of Tad and the President and depicting Robert as more mature than he was in 1861. If you look elsewhere in the sale, we are offering a Robert Todd Lincoln ALS that references amalgams such as this, saying they were complete fabrications was no basis in fact. No matter! The public adored these renditions. We notice a few vertical tears at top and bottom, of little consequence. The piece is quite appealing. It is handsomely matted and framed in burl walnut to an overall size of 37 ½" x 33".
