DescriptionWilliam McKinley: Pro-Expansion Latin Button. Interesting and desirable button issued in 1899 in anticipation of the 1900 election which would again pit McKinley versus Bryan. The issue would not be the gold standard, but rather imperialism and expansion. This button, titled "Pro Expansion", shows a seated McKinley poring over a map of the United States and Central America. He, along with Miss Columbia and the Goddess of Justice, are atop a fringed rug (a flying carpet?) with a brilliant, rising sun to the right and Latin slogans around the perimeter. This is the 1 1/2" version with filled back. It also comes in 7/8".
We are selling the Bryan mate in this sale. This example has some scattered, extremely faint foxing, but displays near-mint.
