Description
William Howard Taft: A Trio of Exceptional Button Designs. Lot includes: 1) A 1 3/4" art-nouveau design sounding the trumpet for Taft, also found for Bryan, is considered one of the best of all golden era button designs. 2) A 1 3/4" stunning design featuring a laurel wreath surrounding the Capitol Dome riding above a pair of golden wings has jugate images of Taft and Sherman in diamond-shaped frames below. A first-time offering of this rare button for us. 3) A classic 1 1/2" Taft "Good Luck" Swastika jugate.Condition: The art-nouveau trumpet presents in fine to very fine condition, the verso has a touch of oxidation to the collet and a small piece of tape secures the pin to the back paper. The 1 3/4" jugate has a some light marks and a slightly uneven surface, but retains its strong colors with perfect centering. The "Good Luck" jugate has scattered foxing as shown in the photo. While each piece displays varying degrees of imperfection, a knowledgeable and forgiving collector may reasonably view these flaws with leniency given the scarcity of these button designs.
