Rare 1896 McKinley-Hobart Jugate Item, The Hake Book Plate Specimen
The very first item in his original 1896-1972 book (no. 1, p. 14). Printed on one piece of die-cut heavy stock, with brass metal frame. We have never known exactly what the intended use of this item was. It is thin enough to bend easily, and has sharp "prongs" on reverse, so perhaps it was intended as a badge for the front of a parade cap, or possibly for attachment to a huge ribbon badge. We have seen only a couple of other examples over the years, and they were in this identical form. In any case, a very striking centerpiece item in great shape. 1 7/8" x 4 3/4".
